This listing is for one gallon (4QT) portion of our hand mixed ultramafic mix. This is the exact same mix we use for our plants listed as potted in ultramafic. If you've been happy with our plants, you will be happy with this mix!
We have found that ultramafic rock media has yielded better, stronger, and more extensive root systems particularly in our very sensitive, rare highland species of Nepenthes. Where we have seen stunted or undeveloped roots in plants that we have struggled with for months or years, the introduction of ultramafic rock has completely revived or greatly amplified the growth rate and overall health.
We are inclined to believe this mix can benefit any Nepenthes, but we mainly recommend it for highland, ultra highland, or otherwise known ultramafic growing species. If you are unsure about your plant, reach out and we will happily let you know!
This mix is four equal parts:
#4 horticultural grade perlite
Peruvian long fiber sphagnum moss
Japanese course grade akadama
Japanese course grade kanuma
This mix has been thoroughly rinsed but has not been sterilized and will still remain chalky due to the nature of the media. The media should be thoroughly hydrated before use and the plant should immediately be flushed with clean water after repotting.
